PSIGE Annual report Oxford Regional Group July 2010

The Oxford PSIGE group covers Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Northants. The group have met on a regular basis through the year. Since July 2009 the group have met on 5 occasions in Oxford. These meetings have generally been well attended by PSIGE members, trainees and assistant psychologists.

The meetings are organised into two parts, a business meeting and a presentation from a PSIGE member representing one of the regions of the group, or a discussion of service issues affecting the region. Topics this year have included:

  • National Dementia Strategy update – discussion led by Chris Allen
  • Discussion of neuropsychological tests used across the 2 trusts to assess for mild cognitive impairments and dementias in older people and working age adults.
  • Discussion of day hospital closures and implications for services; feedback on how client needs are met in regions with no day hospital provision. Further development of memory services and the expanding role of psychologists in these.
  • Older adults and personality disorders – Elizabeth Kemp
  • Complex needs group for older people – Elizabeth Kemp
  • National PSIGE – discussion of what the group would like PSIGE to continue offering in the future.

In the business section of the meeting we have standing agenda items. In the last year local course issues have been discussed and some planning for course teaching has taken place. National PSIGE business has been fed back by attendees at a PSIGE Strategy Meeting and led to general discussions about professional issues. Representatives from each geographical area have updated the group on local issues such as changes in psychological models and implications for services.

Candy Stone continues in her role as regional convenor and treasurer.
Chris Allen has completed his term of office as Media Officer for National PSIGE.
