North Thames PSIGE – Annual Report 2008

Interest in North Thames PSIGE has continued to grow over the past year in the form of requests from people wishing to join the email circulation list, and we now have 37 people on our list, most of whom are PSIGE members. Attendance at our quarterly meetings (held at UCL) began well this year, with thirteen taking part in a discussion of working with interpreters, and ten attending a presentation by Paul Terry on working psychodynamically with older people. Two other meetings where no CPD topic was scheduled were more poorly attended, and we will be planning and advertising dates and CPD/discussion topics well in advance in future to encourage attendance.

Elections were uncontested and the committee remains unchanged from last year. Geraint Price remains convenor; the other committee members are Yvette Kusel, Ruth Lukeman and the three D Clin Psy course reps: Sarah Finnis for UEL, Stephanie Lawrie for UCL, and Sarah Ghani for Royal Holloway.

North Thames is due to host the Annual Conference in 2010 and we have now committed ourselves fully to this. A Conference Organising Group has been formed, possible venues have been visited and the BPS Conferences Service has been engaged to administer the conference.

Future meetings and topics are as follows:

14th July 2008 – (Wilkins Haldane Room, UCL) – Selection of Neuropsychological Tests (open discussion to be led by Stephanie Lawrie).

14th October 2008 – Older Adult Sexuality Issues (Sarah Ghani).

14th January 2009 – Disclosing the Diagnosis of Dementia (Anna Seiffer).

23rd April 2009 – CMHTs and People with Personality Disorders (a book review and discussion to be led by Ruth Lukeman).

Venues of meetings will be advertised on the PSIGE website.

Convenor, North Thames PSIGE
